Best Performance Apparel for Women — Cross Sport Woman

Katonah  |  914.401.9200  |  crosssportwoman.com
You can go to one of those big-box sporting-goods stores for your sports bra and get a one-size-fits-all piece of Spandex with straps. Or you can go there for maternity sportswear and get snickered at by the teen boy manning the register who’s not quite sure what you mean. If you don’t want to deal (and why should you have to?), go instead to Cross Sport Woman. Owned and operated by Bettina Sementilli, an experienced marathoner, cyclist, and all-around athlete—and a one-time design director for Polo Ralph Lauren—this shop is staffed by women, stocked by women, and caters to women.

Here, you’ll find name-brand apparel, gear, shoes, and accessories (Asics, Brooks, Lucy, Sugoi, Tyr, FuelBelt) for cross-training, weightlifting, biking, running, yoga, and more.

Cross Sport Woman, Katonah

Cross Sport Woman - Journal NewsCross-training enthusiast Bettina Sementilli used to shop a lots of stores – and online – to find all the apparel, shoes and accessories she needed for running, biking, and all of her other cross-training activities. So, the Brewster resident decided to bring everything into one place: her new store Cross Sport Woman. Sementilli, who is a former design director for Polo Ralph Lauren, is bringing her sense of style and her cross-training knowledge to her first business. “At the gym, people would come up to me and ask me questions like what shoes should they be wearing in a race,” she says. So her shop will be a place where “women could come together to shop and ask questions,” she says. Sementilli will also host free, informative events at the store. For example, a nutritionist and personal trainer will offer advice from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Spring Brings Changes to Katonah Storefronts

It’s been a few months since we’ve written a Sprouts and Shutters column but the weather is not the only thing that is changing in downtown Katonah.

Bettina Sementilli is opening Cross Sports Woman in the Village East Commons, at 194 Katonah Avenue. If you’ve ever flipped through an Athleta catalog until it is dog-eared, wishing you had somewhere closeby to purchase sporty yet feminine workout clothes you could go to the grocery store in, your wish may come true with this store opening, set for April 2. Sementilli said her shop will be different from others in town because it’s “geared toward the athlete who runs, bikes or swims and works out.” She’ll offer such high-end athletic apparel as Tyr and Zobha and casual footwear from Brooks and Saucony. She’ll also sell goo, a popular energy gel, along with other workout-boosting snacks.

And she knows what she’s talking about when it comes to fashion and excercise: Sementilli has the workout chops—she’s competed in four NYC marathons—and design experience, as a former director for Polo Ralph Lauren.
